Why Craniosacral Therapy for our children?

"I am thoroughly convinced that one of the best things we can do for our children is to have them begin life

with smoothly functioning craniosacral systems, a removal of physical restrictions so their body tissues

aren't burdened by destructive or traumatic memories, and very clean energy fields.  This can all be

accomplished in a very short time within the first few days of life."                           John E. Upledger  DO  OMM

Breath of Life

Massage & Body Work by Megan

Working with infants and children is amazing and a gift.  Children are such brilliant teachers and truly miracles in motion. When playing with babies or children, it is vital to be incredibly mindful as I touch them.  Their little hearts are so wide open and they are often the most intuitive person in the room.  I sense their abilities to track information and feel them processing all that is around them. Little ones are definitely connected to their parents in a unique way and often times influenced by what it is one or both may be feeling, saying or thinking.  My awareness softens and spreads for the entire family dynamic and my touch is so light and nothing but lovingly supportive of whatever the miraculous little master's body may need.  Manipulation with infants is not something I do.  I hold them and tune in to the fascial restrictions and rhythmic imbalances in their tiny bodies.  I believe it is my work to simply support the little masters as they pick and choose what their genius mind wants to play with and maybe  release, and at the same time hold the space in the room for that loving trust to grow between family members.   Children are best supported with loving intention and the lightest of touch.  I encourage all parents of children with special needs to take a Share & Care Class with the Upledger Institute to learn and grow confident in their own ability to support their child's optimum wellness with the lightest of touch and the most loving of intention.   If you are thinking about CST for your baby or child and have questions, please feel free to call with any questions.

Massage & Body Work By Megan in Monument craniosacral therapy

Craniosacral Therapy is a light touch modality that supports the central nervous system of your child's body.  By tuning into the central nervous system, from which all other anatomical systems arise, a Craniosacral Therapist can support your child's body as it self corrects.  It is very gentle and non-invasive.  A typical session will take place on a massage table.  At times the child may be lying with the parent, other times alone, sometimes sitting and playing and yet others, the parents may very well be encouraged to have hands on right along with Megan during the session  All the while, Megan is following the flow of the cerebrospinal fluid and pinpointing restrictions in the tissues around the body.  With incredibly light touch and by following the lead of your child's body, Megan will support and hold space as they release restrictions.  A session may last anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour.

Megan is a huge proponent of all newborns receiving Craniosacral Therapy as soon as possible after birth and then again for five or six times within the first three months of life and more often if there are concerns.  Craniosacral Therapy success rates for children with learning disabilities, autism, hyperactivity and dyslexia have been astounding.

It might help parents decide to incorporate Craniosacral Therapy into their child's wellness program if I share this little bit of information from one recent session with a newborn.  As I held that little miracle for the first time, the tiny body twisted and wriggled all over.  The baby was very relaxed as it did this and I simply supported it, while noticing where there were restrictions that the baby was not working out.  When the baby quit squirming and twisting and settled and sighed, I lightly brought my hand to the area where I felt needed support in unwinding.  It happened to be the neck area, which would make sense because upon questioning, the mother said the umbilical cord had been around it's neck at birth.  I lightly placed my hand just off the little body, just above the neck.  As I did this the baby screamed, twisted and flipped over.  I just lightly kept my hand in that area just off his body all the while calmly talking to the baby and parents.  The mom joined in the conversation and explained that the baby had not let her wash anywhere around it's neck: anytime she would try and touch in that area the baby would scream.  As I held my hand there and spoke calmly with the baby and parents, it seemed the baby was telling a story.  I listened and soothed it with words and an open heart.  Within a couple minutes the baby calmed and took a big breath as if to say that was the end of the story it had to tell us.  I heard a few days later from a very pleased mom that she could wash under the baby's neck easily and with no fuss.

Wow!  Here at just one week old, this baby had trapped this information in the tissues of his body and was struggling with it.  With just a little support, not even touch, the baby released what had evidently been a traumatic event in its life.  It immediately prompted me to question just what we as adults might have stored in our tissues?
